Let me begin by stating that I fervently support the tightening of our borders, strong enforcement of our existing immigration laws and allowing new immigrants to enter our country legally and orderly. Also, much like Miss Oklahoma, I am a strong supporter of State's Rights. Arizona and all states, have the right to protect it's citizens and protect their property.
I simply believe that the new Arizona immigration law is bad and I will explain why.
Before I do that, I think it is important for Conservative leaders to stop lying and tell the truth. Here are three quick examples.
Fact: This
is a racist law. The truth is simple. The people illegally in Arizona are primarily coming in from Mexico. Mexicans tend to have darker skin, darker hair and do not speak English. Shall we delude ourselves into believing that police officers will not be considering this when enforcing the law? If we were allowed to be honest and not politically correct, we would make this the primary consideration when looking for illegal aliens. As a matter of fact, I would bet that the same Conservatives trying to argue that race is not an issue here are the same Conservatives that were so boisterously complaining that the
TSA was wasting time hassling old ladies and small children at airports. They all knew which people should be singled out and what they looked like.
Fact: The police
will be able to randomly stop people. This is pure nonsense that police will only be able to inquire about someones immigration status if that person has been stopped for another infraction/crime. As I pointed out in a previous blog, there are so many layers upon layers of laws on the books, that anyone can be stopped at anytime for virtually anything. Whether it's a broken tail light, not using a blinker or simply jaywalking. If the police want to stop you, they will find an excuse to do so.
Fact: This
is reminiscent of Nazi Germany. When I hear the Conservative talking heads scoff at this notion, I am outraged. This practice is typical of any police state; fascist, communist, socialist, just name it. Free people do not need to carry identification documents, period. To avoid obvious lawsuits, police officers will be forced to question an equal number of non-Hispanics in order to prove that they are not racially profiling. Therefore, all Arizona residents and visitors will be obligated to have paperwork proving their right to be here legally.
I have read many statements from many politicians and pundits but I believe
Marco Rubio had the most thoughtful and accurate view of this situation. He sympathizes with the people of Arizona and their right to protect themselves but he is all too aware of the dangers lurking here. He states
"Throughout American history and throughout this administration we have seen that when government is given an inch it takes a mile."So, what is the "mile" that the government would like to take from us? Well, let's begin with some more truth telling. This is not a Republican/Democrat issue. American presidents from Ronald Reagan to Barack Obama have purposely left our southern border unprotected for many reasons. The spoon fed "pap" that many will regurgitate is that Republicans want cheap labor and Democrats want new voters. This is probably true on some low level but there are much larger reasons why the political and financial elites want and need the demographics of the United States drastically changed. Whether it's diluting the culture or cancelling out the votes of Constitutionally literate citizens, this is a subject for an entire blog some other time.
I firmly believe that the elites see an opportunity here to erect another pillar of the coming police state. The Tyranny by Regulation being enacted by the Obama Administration will require certain elements to be in place in order to be enforced. The Arizona immigration law will usher in two of those elements.
One: Immigration and border control are federal responsibilities. The Feds have deliberately ignored that responsibility. Arizonans, out of desperation, will transfer the burden of enforcing federal laws into the hands of local and state police. I truly believe this will begin the process of making Americans comfortable with this idea. Can we also expect to be asked to prove that we have paid our Federal Income Taxes the next time we run a red light? Libertarians and Conservatives alike should be repulsed at this notion. The Oligarchy will need all available law enforcement personal to enforce their oppression.
Two: How will one properly identify themselves as being a legal resident? As previously stated, it will now be mandatory for anyone in Arizona to carry proof of their status. Birth certificate? Social Security card? What will be acceptable? Unless you plan on having an extended stay at a police station, you had better find out. I believe it is more than a coincidence that this is occurring at the same time that many states are beginning to issue "Real ID" compliant driver's licenses. Many states were fighting this new federal mandate and rightly concluded that this is the forerunner of a National ID card. What better way to make Conservatives and Libertarians acceptable to the police state tactic of a National ID card than to craft it as the solution to our illegal immigration crisis.
Once again, the American people have been duped into forfeiting more of their Liberty in order to respond to a "crisis". There is a much better way to solve this problem without involving any government officials and this solution would actually allow the American people to begin the process of taking back their power from the government. It could also spark the revolution necessary to break the backs of the political/corporate Oligarchy attempting to enslave us. The only problem is that this solution would require us to turn off the television, forget which sports team is leading the division and which movie star is getting a divorce.
If people cannot earn money, they will return to their country of origin. Period.
Citizens must activate locally and demand that local businesses do not hire undocumented workers. This may require a large showing at your local Chamber of Commerce or some high profile town hall meetings. Better hurry before our right to assemble is taken away. Businesses that do not comply must be boycotted and picketed. From the small local restaurant to the giant agriculture corporation. Politicians that do not cooperate must be removed from office. Undocumented workers will eventually move on to friendlier places or simply self deport.
With the double digit unemployment rate, there will be plenty of legal workers available to fill those vacancies. These are not jobs that "Americans are not willing to take", these are jobs that have the stigma of being "work for illegals" and have had the wages for such jobs artificially depressed by those undocumented workers.
Once we flex our collective muscle on this issue, we will have the political power to take back the country, return it to the real owners and tackle other problems. Runaway deficits, shipping our industries over seas, rampant corruption, corporate dominance, whatever the issue is.....we must take our power back!
