As I sit here sipping perhaps the finest beer in the world named for one of our founding fathers, I thought it appropriate to reflect on some of his quotes. As we forge into a great unknown period in our country's history and face the possibility of perhaps living through some very lean years economically, it is comforting to hear words of wisdom that speak to that very issue. Too many out there think this country is great because of our wealth. Actually, this country is wealthy because of our greatness.
What makes us great are the principles on which we were founded. We are the only nation on the earth to proclaim that our rights and freedom come not from our government but from our Creator. Our government, a necessary evil, was established to serve a very limited role in our lives, the main function, to protect those God given unalienable rights. All other nations start with the notion that the rights of the citizens are granted by their government. Once that premise is established, those in government can alter, diminish or change your rights with a simple vote. Our rights are endowed by our Creator and therefore are not supposed to be subject to regulation from those in power.
So, many of us now must weigh big decisions concerning the future of the country. Who to support, what to support. As you do, I hope that you will always put the best interest of the country and the future freedom and liberty of the following generations first and foremost in your decision making. That is what our Founders did and now is the time for us to do the same.
Samuel Adams was very unique, extremely outspoken, tireless and relentless. He never minced his words and was never afraid to speak his mind. In today's world he would be labeled, boxed and publicly scorned for his political "incorrectness".
From Samuel Adams:
----"If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen."

----"The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil Constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted them to us with care and diligence. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men."
----"If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin."
