Separation of Church and State

First Amendment: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof:

Joseph Goebbels: A lie, if audacious enough and repeated enough times, will be believed by the masses.

The first statement above is the actual amendment to the Constitution concerning religion. It is the first clause in the first amendment. This should tell every American citizen just how important this was to the Founding Fathers. What you do not see here are the words "separation of church and state". In fact you will not find those words anywhere in the Constitution. The second statement, from Hitler's propaganda minister, is what has been done to our society with that false phrase.

If you carefully read the amendment, it is clear that the law is prohibiting Congress from passing a law that would (a) favor one religion over another and (b) prohibit any citizen from expressing their religion. Sounds a lot different than what you hear repeated every day on the t.v. doesn't it? In fact, any intelligent person could surmise from the wording that the government's role is to remain neutral about religion. I take it to mean that the Founders actually wanted an abundance of religious expression in this country not the systematic removal of religious expression. That is why they included the second part of the amendment, the Congress cannot PROHIBIT the exercise of people's religious expressions. I think that they wanted multiple religious displays in the public square, not zero. I think they wanted children (in their free time) in school to be able to read the Bible, Torah or Qumran or pray to Jesus, God, Allah or Buddha. I think we should all be comfortable making public displays of our religious beliefs not scorned.

You may differ with my opinion but you certainly cannot argue that the phrase "separation of church and state" appears nowhere in our founding documents. It is actually a phrase taken out of context from a letter written by Thomas Jefferson to a Baptist group back in 1802. Here is the passage:

"Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legislative powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between church and State."

So, now you know. Whenever someone uses this phrase to justify the PROHIBITION of a valedictorian from thanking Jesus for his/her accomplishments or a school teacher being PROHIBITED from wearing a star of David in class or the removal of The Ten Commandments(the foundation of all of our laws) from a public place, you know that you are being lied to.
Why is this important and why post this now? Well, now you know that you have been lied to for several decades. The reason for this lie was to separate You from Your religion. For the most part it has worked as this country has become increasingly more irreligious and more secular. Now that you are aware of this lie perhaps you will start to question every other notion presented to you by the mainstream media and the pop culture and just maybe we can all start to see through the smokescreen and return to the truth of our founding as a nation. That truth served us well for almost 200 years and allowed us to grow into the greatest nation the earth has ever known in a very short amount of time. Only when we strayed from that set of principles did we lose our way and are now spinning out of control with nothing to ground us.

Didn't someone once say that "The Truth Shall Set You Free" ?

P.S. Wouldn't it have been incredible for Obama (or any other president for that matter) at his inauguration, to have started by kneeling down in front of the entire country and world and asked God for His guidance and wisdom. Would that have made us a better or worse country? Would that have made us more united or more divided? I can only tell you my own opinion. Just flip through my blog and you know how I feel about this man. If he had started his presidency this way, I would be his number one fan.
Just a thought.
